Sharon Bulova was reelected Chairman of the Board of Supervisors on November 8, 2011. She was first elected Chairman in a special election on February 3, 2009. Prior to serving as Chairman, she was Supervisor of the Braddock District from 1988 until 2009. She has served as Chairman of the Board's Budget Committee for 20 of her 24 years in office. A Northern Virginia resident since 1966, Mrs. Bulova resides in The Cloisters of Fairfax with her husband Lou DeFalaise. Together, they have four adult children and five grandchildren.

Priorities
Two Washington Post Editorials (“Fiscal Responsibility in Fairfax County” and “A Tale of Two Counties”) praised Fairfax County for its handling of the budget during these difficult economic times. Chairman Bulova makes sure that the community has a place at the table during the budget process in order to strike the right balance for keeping taxes affordable while protecting the quality of life and services we value and rely upon.
Mrs. Bulova’s priorities as Chairman include guiding the transformation of Tysons into a successful mixed-use, transit-oriented community laced with parks, recreational and cultural amenities. She is committed to the extension of the new Metrorail Silver Line through Tysons to Dulles Airport, with stations serving the Tysons, Herndon and Reston areas of the County.
In the South County-Richmond Highway area, Mrs. Bulova is working to address transportation challenges associated with BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) and to realize revitalization opportunities the military re-locations afford the area near Fort Belvoir and the new National Geospatial Intelligence Agency headquarters.
Mrs. Bulova is committed to providing express bus service on the new Beltway HOT lanes, as well as expanding the availability and efficiency of service on the County’s CONNECTOR and Metro bus routes countywide. She has initiated efforts to put transit into the congested I-66 corridor.
